Range column Chart in EJ2 TypeScript control

Range column

To render a range column series in your chart, you need to follow a few steps to configure it correctly. Here’s a concise guide on how to do this:

  • Set the series type: Define the series type as RangeColumn in your chart configuration. This indicates that the data should be represented as a range column chart, which is ideal for visualizing data that has both minimum and maximum values for each category. This is especially useful for visualizing data ranges, such as temperature fluctuations over time, stock prices, or any other data with upper and lower bounds.

  • Inject the RangeColumnSeries module: Use the Chart.Inject(RangeColumnSeries) method to inject the RangeColumnSeries module into your chart. This step is essential, as it ensures that the necessary functionalities for rendering range column series are available in your chart.

  • Provide high and low values: The RangeColumn series requires two y-values for each data point, you need to specify both the high and low values. The high value represents the maximum range, while the low value represents the minimum range for each data point. These values define the upper and lower boundaries of the column for each point on the chart.

import { Chart, RangeColumnSeries, Category } from '@syncfusion/ej2-charts';
import { data1, data2 } from './datasource.ts';
Chart.Inject(RangeColumnSeries, Category);

let chart: Chart = new Chart({
    primaryXAxis: {
        valueType: 'Category',
        title: 'Month'
    },
    primaryYAxis: {
        title: 'Temperature(Celsius)',
        labelFormat: '{value}°C'
    },
    series: [

Binding data with series

You can bind data to the chart using the dataSource property within the series configuration. This allows you to connect a JSON dataset or remote data to your chart. To display the data correctly, map the fields from the data to the chart series xName, high, and low properties.

import { Chart, RangeColumnSeries, Category } from '@syncfusion/ej2-charts';
import { data1, data2 } from './datasource.ts';
Chart.Inject(RangeColumnSeries, Category);

let chart: Chart = new Chart({
    primaryXAxis: {
        valueType: 'Category',
        title: 'Month'
    },
    primaryYAxis: {
        title: 'Temperature(Celsius)',
        labelFormat: '{value}°C'
    },
    series: [
        {
            // Series type as range column series
            type: 'RangeColumn',
            dataSource: data1,
            xName: 'x',
            high: 'high',
            low: 'low'
        },
        {
            type: 'RangeColumn',
            dataSource: data2,
            xName: 'x',
            high: 'high',
            low: 'low'
        }

Series customization

The following properties can be used to customize the range column series.

Fill

The fill property determines the color applied to the series.

import { Chart, RangeColumnSeries, Category } from '@syncfusion/ej2-charts';
import { data1, data2 } from './datasource.ts';
Chart.Inject(RangeColumnSeries, Category);

let chart: Chart = new Chart({
    primaryXAxis: {
        valueType: 'Category',
        title: 'Month'
    },
    primaryYAxis: {
        title: 'Temperature(Celsius)',
        labelFormat: '{value}°C'
    },
    series: [
        {
            // Series type as range column series
            type: 'RangeColumn',
            dataSource: data1,
            xName: 'x',
            high: 'high',
            low: 'low',
            fill: 'blue'
        },
        {
            type: 'RangeColumn',
            dataSource: data2,
            xName: 'x',
            high: 'high',
            low: 'low',
            fill: 'violet'

The fill property can be used to apply a gradient color to the range column series. By configuring this property with gradient values, you can create a visually appealing effect in which the color transitions smoothly from one shade to another.

import { Chart, RangeColumnSeries, Category } from '@syncfusion/ej2-charts';
import { data1, data2 } from './datasource.ts';
Chart.Inject(RangeColumnSeries, Category);

let chart: Chart = new Chart({
    primaryXAxis: {
        valueType: 'Category',
        title: 'Month'
    },
    primaryYAxis: {
        title: 'Temperature(Celsius)',
        labelFormat: '{value}°C'
    },
    series: [
        {
            // Series type as range column series
            type: 'RangeColumn',
            dataSource: data1,
            xName: 'x',
            high: 'high',
            low: 'low',
            fill: 'url(#gradient1)'
        },
        {
            type: 'RangeColumn',

Opacity

The opacity property specifies the transparency level of the fill. Adjusting this property allows you to control how opaque or transparent the fill color of the series appears.

import { Chart, RangeColumnSeries, Category } from '@syncfusion/ej2-charts';
import { data1, data2 } from './datasource.ts';
Chart.Inject(RangeColumnSeries, Category);

let chart: Chart = new Chart({
    primaryXAxis: {

Use the border property to customize the width, color and dasharray of the series border.

import { Chart, RangeColumnSeries, Category } from '@syncfusion/ej2-charts';

Corner radius

The cornerRadius property in the chart series is used to customize the corner radius for bar series. This allows you to create bars with rounded corners, giving your chart a more polished appearance. You can customize each corner of the bars using the topLeft, topRight, bottomLeft, and bottomRight properties.

Point render

The pointRender event allows you to customize each data point before it is rendered on the chart.

import { Chart, RangeColumnSeries, Category, IPointRenderEventArgs } from '@syncfusion/ej2-charts';
import { data1, data2 } from './datasource.ts';
Chart.Inject(RangeColumnSeries, Category);

let chart: Chart = new Chart({
    primaryXAxis: {
        valueType: 'Category',
        title: 'Month'
    },
    primaryYAxis: {
        title: 'Temperature(Celsius)',
        labelFormat: '{value}°C'
